Community Involvement
We’re better together
At Healthcare Ireland Group Homes, community involvement is key to the holistic care we provide for our residents. We recognise the intrinsic dignity of each resident and in their new home, we want them to feel connected to the community that they live in.
Community involvement enriches the lives of residents and enhances the overall care experience. Recognising the profound impact of social connections on well-being, our Homes actively engage with their surrounding communities to foster a sense of belonging and support.
Through partnerships with local organisations, schools and business our Homes create opportunities for meaningful interaction and shared experiences. From intergenerational programmes that bridge the gap between young and old to volunteer initiatives that bring joy, companionship - community involvement adds depth and vibrancy to residents’ lives.
In Braefield Home, Rebecca Lawless, Home Manager and Laura Hill, Activities Therapist run a Kindness Post-box. This initiative runs with a local primary school, the students write letters, send drawings and cards that are then exchanged with the residents who then reply. Everyone knows the joy of receiving something personal in the post, this programme provides an opportunity for relationship as well as giving our residents the opportunity to practice their often well-honed letter writing skills.
Community engagement plays a crucial role in combating social isolation and loneliness among residents, promoting mental and emotional wellbeing. By opening our doors to community members and embracing diverse perspectives, our Homes cultivate inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and connected.
The team at Longfield Care Home work closely with St. Cecilia’s College. Recently their students put together memory boxes of their favourite keepsakes and childhood toys, which they then brought into the care home and chatted through individually with the residents. It was a great activity for connection with the residents. Adam Dickson, one of our Regional Support Managers talks about the impact of reminiscence here.
Ultimately, the importance of community involvement for our Homes lies in its ability to nurture relationships, foster a sense of purpose and enrich the fabric of care. Together, residents, team members and community partners create a supportive culture prioritising dignity, respect and human connection, transforming our Homes into vibrant hubs of compassion and belonging.
